Effective March 1, 2003, Georgia Tech will no longer use Social
Security Numbers as a primary way to identify Tech constituents;
instead,
a unique identifier called the gtID# will be assigned to all
Georgia Tech constituents. The gtID# will be used across all
systems, applications, and many business processes throughout
the lifetime of an individuals association with the Institute.
This change is in accordance with Tech’s new Social
Security Number policy which was approved in August 2002.
This step is critical in the continuing efforts to reduce the
risk of identity
theft for the campus community.
